India has more brands calling themselves handmade than any other country. Most of them aren't. They use the word because it sounds premium. The reality is machine-made with a hand-finished edge, or outsourced to factories that also produce for fast-fashion brands, or handmade in the loosest possible sense — by a human who pressed a button.

What handmade actually means at HOH
At Haus of Handmade, handmade means specific things. Sequins are applied individually — not heat-pressed in sheets. Lace is positioned by an artisan, not machine-placed. Appliqué is cut and stitched by hand. The production is in batches of less than 50 pieces per design. Each piece is checked before it ships.
This takes longer. It costs more. It produces something that looks different in person from anything made at scale — because it is different.
Why small batch matters
Small batch production means the entire set of pieces is cut from a single fabric lot. The colour is consistent across the top and the bottom, across the first piece and the last. In mass production, this doesn't happen — different dye batches produce slight colour variations that are invisible in photos and visible in person.
