Made to Order vs Ready to Wear — Why HOH Chose a Third Way

The fashion industry is usually divided into two camps. Made to order: you wait weeks for a piece produced specifically for you. Ready to wear: mass-produced, immediately available, made without any particular person in mind.

Haus of Handmade sits between these two worlds.

The Problem with Made to Order

Made-to-order fashion means waiting times of 4 to 8 weeks, multiple measurements and fittings, and a price point that puts it beyond most wardrobes. You cannot hold it or try it before committing.

The Problem with Ready to Wear

Mass production means fabric chosen for margin, not quality. Finishing done as fast as possible. Detailing that is machine-applied. Sequins in perfect uniform rows. Embroidery that is actually print. Lace that is glued rather than sewn.

The HOH Approach

We produce each design in a limited batch. The detail work is applied by hand during that batch. Every piece is checked before it ships. When the batch is gone, the design is retired.

This means you get the quality of made-to-order without the wait.

Traditional Dress Shopping Tips

If you are shopping for handcrafted Indian fashion, look for: brands that produce in limited quantities, specific descriptions of what was done by hand, quality fabric matched to the detail work, and a clear exchange policy from a brand confident in their product.
