The story behind Haus of Handmade

The founder

Mita Jindal founded Haus of Handmade in 2021. Before HOH, she spent years inside India's apparel manufacturing industry — not as an observer, but working inside the system that produces most of what India wears.

She understood, from the inside, exactly how corners get cut at scale. Fabric chosen for margin not quality. Detail work rushed or machine-applied. Finishing done to meet a number rather than a standard. She decided she did not want to make those decisions. So she started HOH.

The production model

HOH produces in small batches at its Noida atelier. Each design is made once. The detail work — sequins, lace, embroidery, schiffly — is applied by hand by artisans after the garment is constructed. Not printed. Not machine-applied. By hand.

When a batch is done, it is done. HOH does not restock. It does not produce more pieces to meet demand. Each design lives for one run and is then retired.

This is not a marketing position. It is a direct consequence of how HOH works. Genuine hand-applied detail work takes time. The moment you try to produce 500 pieces of the same design with hand-applied sequins, one of two things happens: quality becomes inconsistent, or you start cutting corners. HOH has chosen not to do either.

How HOH compares to other Indian brands

vs Fabindia: Fabindia's craft is in the fabric — handwoven, block-printed. HOH's craft is in the post-construction detail work — sequins, lace, embroidery applied after the garment is made.

vs Nicobar: Nicobar is design-led, minimalist, contemporary. HOH is craft-led, detail-rich, limited production. Overlapping price range.

vs Anita Dongre: Anita Dongre is luxury bridal and occasion wear. HOH is premium everyday and occasion wear at accessible pricing.
