Teej 2027 has two major celebrations: Hariyali Teej on August 5, 2027 and Hartalika Teej on September 3, 2027. Both are fasting festivals for married women, celebrated with green clothing, mehndi, and swings. Here is what to wear for Teej 2027.
Teej 2027 Dates
- Hariyali Teej: Wednesday, August 5, 2027
- Hartalika Teej: Thursday, September 3, 2027
What Colour to Wear for Teej 2027
Green is the quintessential Teej colour — the festival's name Hariyali literally means greenery, and Hariyali Teej is celebrated at the onset of the monsoon when nature turns green. Green is worn by almost all women for Teej.
- Green: The defining Teej colour. Any shade from light lime to bottle green to dark emerald — all are appropriate. A green lehenga, salwar kameez, or co-ord set is the most traditional Teej outfit.
- Red: Also very traditional for Teej — particularly for married women. Red and green together are the most iconic Teej colour combination.
- Yellow: Auspicious for the monsoon season — often worn for Hariyali Teej alongside green.
- Pink: Festive and popular, particularly among younger women.
What to Wear for Hariyali Teej (August 5, 2027)
Hariyali Teej is a monsoon festival — green is the colour of the season and the occasion. For Hariyali Teej, wear a green ethnic outfit: a green salwar kameez, green lehenga, or a green co-ord set. The festival involves singing, swings, and outdoor celebrations — comfortable fabric is important. Cotton in green for the August heat is most practical. A handcrafted green shirt from Haus of Handmade with matching palazzos is comfortable for the day's celebrations and beautiful for the swing photographs.
What to Wear for Hartalika Teej (September 3, 2027)
Hartalika Teej is the bigger and more serious of the two Teej fasts — a full-day fast without water, observed with elaborate puja. For Hartalika Teej, dress more formally than Hariyali Teej. A green lehenga or green salwar kameez in silk or chanderi is traditional. Red and green together is a popular Hartalika Teej combination. Full mehndi on hands and feet, bangles (green glass bangles are traditional for Teej), and gold jewellery complete the look.
Teej Mehndi and Accessories
Mehndi is essential for Teej — both hands, feet, and traditionally up the arms. Green glass bangles are the most traditional Teej accessory. Gold or kundan jewellery with a green or red outfit. Red bindi and sindoor for married women.
